Utah Senate approves bill adding 4 judgeships in 3rd District Court

SALT LAKE CITY — A invoice creating four new third District Courtroom judgeships handed the Senate Tuesday.

SB92, sponsored by Sen. Todd Weiler, R-Woods Cross, was accredited 27-1 and now goes to the House. Yet to be decided is whether or not the $1.eighty one million value of including the brand new judges might be included in the ultimate finances.

The only vote towards the bill got here from Sen. David Hinkins, R-Orangeville, who questioned why judges weren’t transferred from a number of the state’s seven different courtroom districts for a day or two at a time to economize.

Weiler stated his understanding is that judges are required to stay inside the districts they serve in and that his invoice was meant to deal with a current research displaying that based mostly on workload, the third District Courtroom is actually brief seven judges.

There are at present 29 judges within the 3rd District.
