Dimond’s roar for four begins with sweeps at state volleyball tournament

The Dimond Lynx started their roar for four with, properly, a roar Thursday.

The Lynx, who’re chasing a fourth straight state championship, established themselves as the category of the Class 4A state volleyball event by sweeping previous two opponents in dominant style.

Dimond dusted Colony within the first round on the Alaska Airlines Middle 25-16, 25-three, 25-6. Then it dumped South in a winners-bracket match 25-12, 25-23, 25-15 to remain undefeated towards Alaska groups.

Those victories put the Lynx in a Friday night time semifinal match towards West, which breezed previous Thunder Mountain with a primary-round sweep and turned back Soldotna in 4 units within the winners bracket.

The winner of the Dimond-West match, scheduled for five:15 p.m. Friday, will advance to Saturday’s 5 p.m. championship match.

Friday’s semifinal within the Class 3A event shall be replay of final week’s Southcentral Conference championship match between Nikiski and Grace Christian.

Nikiski came from behind to knock off defending state champion Valdez in a 4-set winners-bracket match Thursday. The Bulldogs, who swept Barrow within the first spherical, stopped Valdez 22-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-13.

Grace Christian advanced by sweeping Mt. Edgecumbe and Monroe. On Friday, the Grizzlies face a Nikiski workforce that beat them in five units within the Southcentral Conference title recreation Saturday.
