STAMFORD — The demolition of one among downtown’s cylindrical towers will close one lane of Washington Boulevard this weekend. Another lane and the southbound aspect closest to Metropolis Corridor will remain open, but the city is asking residents to think about an alternate route.
Starting eight p.m. Friday, staff will start taking town the primary St. John Tower structure, knocking it town flooring-by-flooring from the top. Demolition crews have already razed the primary-flooring retail portion of the constructing and a pedestrian bridge over Tresser Boulevard.
The leveling of the tower, carried out with an orange excessive-attain excavator, will “proceed around-the-clock” via the weekend, in response to a city information launch.
