Church statement says changes coming for local celebrations, including pageants

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints introduced Saturday that there might be modifications to native celebrations, including pageants, saying that “the aim of each exercise within the Church ought to be to increase faith within the Lord Jesus Christ and to share His gospel message throughout the world.”

“Local celebrations of culture and history could also be applicable,” reads the official Newsroom assertion. “Bigger productions, comparable to pageants, are discouraged.”

The statement continues: “Because it relates to present pageants, conversations with local Church and group leaders are underway to appropriately end, modify or continue these productions.”
