Charges: Parents charged with child abuse after toddler found with fractured ribs

SALT LAKE CITY — A couple has been charged with youngster abuse after their 19-month-previous son was discovered with eight to eleven rib fractures, in line with charging paperwork.

Jose Hernandez, 38, and Maria Arvizu, 40, of Salt Lake City, have been every charged with baby abuse, a second-degree felony, in 3rd District Courtroom on Friday. Arvizu was also charged with witness tampering, a third-diploma felony, and obstructing justice, a category A misdemeanor. A pair of $one hundred,000 arrest warrants have been issued Friday.

In 2017, a physician found bruises and the cracked ribs after performing a “properly verify visit” with the family, charging paperwork state. The fractures have been “indicative of blunt drive trauma or squeezing,” the doctor opined, in response to the fees.

The boy’s older brother advised investigators that Hernandez would hit each boys, after which their mom “practiced interviewing him so he would know what to say” if officials requested him concerning the bruises, in accordance with courtroom paperwork. The brother stated he was instructed to say the 19-month-previous boy was harm by falling, in line with charging paperwork.

Arvizu stated that as the youngest boy grew, the abuse continued. After one alleged incident, the boy “did not seem to need to eat and commenced to drop pounds,” the fees state.
