Sheriff-elect reopens Speed-Freak killers case in San Joaquin County

The San Joaquin County Sheriff-elect is reopening a many years-previous serial murder case whereas the county is agreeing to pay more than half-a-million dollars to the household of one of the killers’ victims. It was 2012 when the sheriff’s division started digging in Linden to look for victims’ remains of the so-referred to as Velocity-Freak killers Wesley Shermantine and Loren Herzog. They’re suspected of more than 70 meth-fueled murders in the Nineteen Eighties and have been initially convicted of 4. Herzog’s murder convictions have been overturned years later. He was paroled in 2010 and committed suicide in 2012. Shermantine is on dying row at San Quentin State Jail. County officers stated it’s recommending the settlement, while Sheriff Pat Withrow stated the department made a mistake and says it’ll do better and extra.
